QuincyQuincy are characters in the Bleach series, who are either survivors of hollow attacks, or who have lost loved ones as a result of the hollows. The objective of the Quincy was to kill hollows before they can get to humans, by using their supernatural powers which they developed. There are very few Quincy because they are nearing extinction ever since the Quincy-Shinigami War. The souls between the two worlds were becoming unbalanced because of the Quincy killing them. Sooner or later this would have destroyed both worlds, thus why the Shinigami attacked. The Shinigami came out of the war victorious. The Quincy developed a plan to protect the humans until the Shinigami could come to take care of the hollows, but it got shot down because the Shinigami’s were still bitter about the previous war. Instead the Shinigami would react to the most dangerous hollows and current hollow attacks. Uryu Ishida, Ichigo’s classmate and a fellow Quincy became upset over this since his grandfather had been slain by a team of hollows before the Shinigami could arrive. The Quincy absorbs the spiritual energy of their surroundings in order to fight, from such places as the environment and atmosphere. They have an easier time collecting energy from places such as the Soul Society because it is denser in spiritual particles. Similar to the Shinigami, Quincies use a bow that is made up of spiritual energy. Using a Quincy cross or pentacle, which they all possess, they summon the bow. Using the Sanrei Gloves, a Quincy’s power can be significantly increased. In order to obtain these gloves they must complete a week of intense training. The gloves deter spirit particles from the Quincy using them, so if one can successfully use their powers while using the gloves they will experience a breakthrough in strength. This is the basis training for the Quincy final form. In order to enter the final form, a Quincy can do so by removing the gloves in a desperate situation. They will then experience a change in form and an increase in power. While in this form they absorb overwhelming amounts of energy at a super fast rate. This allows the Quincy to fight with extreme speed and strength and can overtake an average Shinigami Captain. After a short period of use, however, the Quincy loses all powers, and can no longer serve. This state is only used as a last resort. It is possible, yet extremely difficult to gain back powers afterwards. The only way for a Quincy to regain his powers is to completely exhaust themselves mentally and physically and then to be hit exactly 19mm to the right of their heart with a spirit arrow. This will allow a pentacle to form in the center of their chest, enabling their powers to be restored.
The Quincy possesses several items which helps them in various ways. A Quincy Cross: Used to summon the bow; some of these crosses are in the shape of a pentacle. A Hollow Bait: A scattering coin which lures hollows. The Sanrei Gloves: explained above. Silver Tubes: Small silver tubes which store spiritual energy. They can be used by a Quincy who has lost his powers, to perform techniques by calling out commands. Soul-synthesized Silver: Used to make the hidden chamber which Uryu trains in. Soul-synthesized Glass: Also used to construct the hidden chamber in the Karakura Hospital. Also used, is the Quincy Bangle: Uses powers to restore energy, destroy objects and curve arrows away from the target. Some noted special techniques which only a few Quincy have been able to use are as follows: The Hirenkyaku, which manipulates gathered spiritual particles under their feet, allowing the user to ride the platform of energy to a desired location, giving the ability of flight. Ransotengai is also used and is a high level technique allowing the user to control their body parts using strings of spirit energy controlled by their brain. This allows the user to control their whole body as one would with a puppet. The Final Form is also used, which is a last resort move performed by removing the Sanrei Gloves. Its effects are further explained above. |
