Kurosaki Ichigo has always had the unique and special ability to see spirits, but this ability is nothing more than a mere annoyance in his life until his fateful meeting with a mysterious woman, Kuchiki Rukia, a Shinigami (death god) and a member of the Soul Society. While fighting a Hollow (an evil spirit that preys upon humans who display psychic energy), Rukia attempts to lend Ichigo some of her great power so that he can save his family from the evil demons, but much to her surprise Ichigo absorbs much more than just a little of her power, in fact he absorbs it all. Now a full Shinigami himself Ichigo quickly learns that the seemingly harmless world that he had inhabited is indeed a world full of dangerous spirits. Along with Rukia, who is regaining her powers, it is Ichigo's job to protect the innocent from Hollows and to help the spirits find peace.
